It all began with a man who had a dream. That man was Don Hilligas. Don, was a noble business man from Ohio, whom began working construction in Alaska in 1964. In 1970 Don's family decided they liked Alaska so much they moved to Chevak, Alaska where he would run the general store. Soon after, in 1974, Don moved to Anchorage, Alaska and joined the Jack White Company team. Once with Jack White he helped create and operate their Property Management Division. Don was an integral part of the development and management teams on such projects as the Calais Office Center, Buildings I and II, and the Hunt Building at 550 West Seventh Avenue. In 1987 Don decided to break off on his own and Hilligas Company was born. Soon after, in 1990 Hilligas Company became incorporated. Don was involved in many major commercial real estate developments throughout Anchorage for three decades, teaching his sons Seth and Shawn, as well as his staff everything he had grown to know about commercial real estate. Don passed away on June 20, 2002 at the age of 63 with his family by his side at Providence Alaska Medical Center.

Upon Don's passing he left Hilligas Company to his wife, Ellie, and sons, Seth and Shawn to continue his success and dreams in the commercial real estate field. Ellie, Seth and Shawn took the knowledge in commercial real estate Don had passed down and used it to further grow Hilligas Company into one of the most successful and well known businesses in Alaska's commercial real estate industry. In April of 2004, Shawn moved to Arizona to pursue other interests. In 2005 Ellie and Seth gave a portion of Hilligas Company to Tammy Krous, the broker and integral person on the Hilligas Company Team, for her dedication and service.

By early 2008 the three of them had brought Hilligas Company to the point of managing in excess of one million square feet of commercial space. At the beginning of August 2008, Tammy Krous bought the remaining portion of Hilligas Company with the promise of upholding Don's legacy, and dream to run the most successful commercial real estate business in Alaska while still keeping the personal touch that every property owner deserves.
